Who am I?

Welcome to my blog.

My name is Elisabet Osk Gudmundsdottir, it is nice to meet to you!

I have been wanting to start this blog for a while now but I have always put it off, worried that no one would read it, thinking I did not have anything of value to say and at times even questioning my own authority to be writing about sports and other issues dear to my heart. I came to the conclusion that the reason for why I kept putting this blog off was that I was afraid.

I was afraid that if no one read my blog, that would mean I failed. I realised that if I didn´t at least try I would have failed by default. The realisation that I am writing this blog for my own satisfaction also helped set me free of my fear. When I questioned my own I authority, in reality it was my own low self esteem telling me that I was not good enough, but I have decided that I am fully qualified to discuss matters of interest to me.

I am hoping that my blog entries can spark some interesting conversation around current issues in sport and if you do not agree with my standpoint please let me know in the comments as I am always hoping to expand my own horizon and to challenge my own views. I am always wanting to hear and understand the other side of an argument so I welcome all discussion on any of my thoughts.

Before we go any further I would like to tell you a bit about myself. Here are some quick facts about me:

  • I am born and raised in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, for those not familiar with icelandic geography it is a small town just outside the capital: Reykjavík.
  • I have lived in four different countries: Iceland, Norway, England and Australia
  • I currently am living in Australia and have been for the last four years and a bit.
  • I speak three languages: Icelandic (yes we do have our own language, crazy right?), Norwegian and English
  • I am a mad Liverpool FC supporter
  • I love European Handball
  • I am excited about all things related to the management side of sports
  • I have a sport management degree from Griffith University
  • I have previously researched the sport talent transfer process from the perspective of athletes and their coaches
  • I am currently working on a research project on the athletes support network
  • And one fact that you probably didn´t need to know: I am an obsessed black liquorice fanatic (it has to be icelandic though!)

I intend to use this blog to write about my thoughts on current issues in sports, my research projects and anything else that I might find interesting enough to write about. I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I enjoy writing it!

Until next time…
